As an Advocate of the High Court we often do not have the time to attend offsite and out-of-office training courses and to this extent it provided me with the ideal platform to complete a very comprehensive online course supplementing my practical experience in the luxury of my own office.

The online course is well balanced and detailed with added graphical aids leaving the student fully informed and tested after each module, gradually taking delegates from introduction to intermediary stage and then finally into sea navigation in a progressive format, from understanding the Laws, Regulations and Rules, reviewing aspects of the motor and controls, all the detail around safety and procedures to follow, balances and checks for boats and trailers, to navigation, weather, wind and water, to first aid and boating concepts.

The modules are focused with the outcomes clearly defined. But that is not where it stops, delegates are also provided with a mock-up exam for self-testing and exam preparation purposes with the academic staff providing telephonic and social media support at the instant when needed.

The online exam was no different, simulating an in-person test under supervision of the examiner.

By attending the online skipper course and performing the module test of each section together with mock exam really prepare a delegate very well and equipped with all the knowledge to write the exam with the greatest of confidence.

I have been skeptical on trying this online skippers course, after I started i could not stopped as its interesting and an eye opener. I can recommend it to any even if you do not want to be skipper but to have an understanding of water vessels and how they are moved around. This will make you aware of some good and bad behaviors or persons operating these vessels and it can also save you when you are on a outing with friend and one has a boat.

A comprehensive course which covers all the very basics for beginners.
